Note from the Editors .05

Issue .05 is here, and we could not be more excited and honored to share it with you. With so many new features of WHILST (like the new website, The Scribble, starting WHILST writers workshops, and designing an all-new downloadable version of the magazine), we have had our hands full trying to juggle all the moving parts. But I can confidently say that Issue .05 is something that all of our editors are very proud of, and I hope our authors and contributors are as well. We have all learned something about laying down our ideas of perfection and substituting them for grace and perseverance.

These pieces explore what it means to be open to new experiences, to healing. They explore themes of identity and language, and what it means when who you are hinges on a single word. We hear from authors who are fighting for control, searching for meaning in their work, and finding hope in the landscapes around them. And we are called to action, called to care for this world before it’s too late. We see grace on display in profound ways through these pieces, and that theme has carried us through all of the transitions we’ve undergone lately as a magazine. It resonates in our lives as we work to meet and conquer the challenges we face, whether we’re resolving a difference of opinion or troubleshooting a technical snag.

Like each of its predecessors, Issue .05 marks a significant moment in the development of WHILST both as a magazine and as a movement that champions hope and grace for the moment. We invite you to step into this issue.
